Many changes are being made to the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and associated regulations. These legislative and regulatory amendments will take effect over the course of the next two years, with the first dates being February 10, 2007 and June 30, 2007. The third date to follow is June 23, 2008 which will bring into force the vast majority of new requirements.
Details of the changes can be found in the following documents that were published in the Canada Gazette:
- On June 27, an Order in Council (SI/2007-64) was published regarding the coming into force of certain provisions of Bill C-25. There are several different coming into force dates for Bill C-25 amendments, spanning 2007 and 2008. There are also some provisions that have no coming into force date yet established. The Order in Council can be found at: http://canadagazette.gc.ca/partII/2007/20070627/pdf/g2-14113.pdf
- On June 27, the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Registration Regulations (SOR/2007-121) were published. The document can be found at: http://canadagazette.gc.ca/partII/2007/20070627/pdf/g2-14113.pdf
- On June 27, Regulations amending certain Regulations made under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (SOR 2007-122) were published. These include amendments to existing regulations covering reporting entity obligations (customer due diligence enhancements, attempted suspicious transaction reporting, etc). They have several coming into force dates: June 30, 2007, June 23, 2008, and June 23, 2009. The document can be found at: http://canadagazette.gc.ca/partII/2007/20070627/pdf/g2-14113.pdf
FINTRAC’s Web site will be updated on an ongoing basis over the course of the next 12 months. The office consolidations on the Act page and Regulations page will be updated according to when the provisions take effect. In addition, summaries of all changes affecting reporting entity obligations will be published. These will be followed in late 2007 and early 2008 by new or revised guidelines and other publications.

Manulife Bank – Manulife One Account
The Manulife One account is an efficient Money Management System whereby monthly income in your account immediately gets applied to the mortgage and or consolidated debt. This reduces the principal amount being used for the time that it's there and reduces the interest being charged. Bills can be paid and funds withdrawn as normal, however for the time your money was in the account, it was working for you by paying down debt and having less interest coming out of your pocket. Sub-accounts can be arranged that will calculate the interest separately. The year-end statement indicates how much interest is tax-deductible and how much is not.

Terms and Conditions for Financial Review and Assurance Contracts
Over the past several months, under the leadership of the Procurement Governance Office and with participation from vendor representatives, the government has undertaken a review of the terms and conditions which apply to financial review and assurance contracts undertaken for government. This review was initiated as a result of specific vendor issues brought to the Office’s attention, and resulted in changed terms and conditions to meet the needs of vendors providing these services to government.
The review has now been concluded, and the resulting amended terms and conditions for these contracts have been implemented across government.
These terms and conditions can be viewed at the following website:

Email Communication - Spam
Filters
Spam protection is a vital component of your network's security
strategy due to the vast quantities of fraudulent, inappropriate
and offensive emails being delivered to businesses every day.
However, spam filters are not perfect and studies show that
an increasing number of legitimate email messages are being
caught.
We believe that some of CMABC's legitimate email communications
to our members are being caught in a number of organizations'
spam filters. Here are some steps to take if you are not receiving
email communication from CMABC.
| 1. |
Log onto the Member Access
portion of our website and check to see if the email address
listed in your profile is correct |
| 2. |
Check with your IT administrator
to see if your organization has a spam filter in place |
| 3. |
Ask your IT administrator to
add the cmabc domain (@cmabc) to the spam filter's list
of addresses that are automatically allowed to pass through
the filter. This list is often called a "whitelist" |
| 4. |
If your organization's spam
filter cannot be customized in this way, provide us with
an alternate email address where we can reach you. |
